Mangalore: Machendranath Pandeshwar, a well-known Tulu playwright passed away at his daughter’s residence at Yekkur on April 5, Friday night.
Machendranath had enjoyed immense popularity thanks to the several plays authored by him. Some of his most popular plays are ‘Mokeda Magaleg Kuselda Kandani,’ ‘Bolpuge Bale’ ‘Telpere Kalpi,’
‘Mande Arvattana Mundasu Tammalena’ and ‘Councillor Kogganne.’ Tulu film ‘Daareda Seere’ was on the basis of his play ‘Portu Kantndu.’ He had also authored dialogues and lyrics for Tulu films ‘Daareda Seere,’ ‘Pettayi Pili’ and ‘Badkere Budle.’
Some of his Kannada plays include ‘Yamalokadalli Miss Moonlight,’ and ‘Devadas.’ He had also won several awards including Karnataka Nataka Academy, Tulu Sahitya Academy and District Rajyotsava Awards.
