Mangalore: The Congress which had tried to put up a united front and made all possible efforts to prevent any sorts of dissidence over tickets, is in trouble.
Close on the heels of KPCC Secretary Ivan D’Souza’s supporters staging a protest in front of DCC office on April 6, Saturday, demanding ticket for their leader in Mangalore South constituency and opposing the candidature of JR Lobo, there was a fracas at the airport over the issue of ticket for Mangalore North constituency.
When Rajya Sabha Member and AICC Secretary Oscar Fernandes landed at the Mangalore airport on April 6, Saturday evening, he had to be a witness to a virtual fist fighting between supporters of former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty and District Congress Minorities Cell Chief Moidin Bava, both ticket aspirants from Mangalore North constituency.
Sources said if one group had been to the airport to welcome Oscar, another group had been there to demand a ticket for their leader. In their hurry to meet Oscar they engaged in a brawl.
It is said Oscar who was angered by the incident had cautioned the leaders and workers against resorting to such act in the future as it would send wrong signals to the voters.
In the meantime, political observers say there is even a possibility of the clashes between these two leaders helping another aspirant Kripa Alva.
