Moodbidri : At the Gram Sabha of Tenkamijar held here on Monday June 30, villagers strongly resented the apathy of the administration in sanctioning land for a crematorium, despite repeated appeals in this regard since the past several years.

Villagers wanted to know why the authorities are apathetic to the demand even after a warning in the previous meeting that they would resort to cremation in front of the Panchayat office if land was not sanctioned for the crematorium. The demand is being raised in the past 18 Gram Sabhas but of no avail, complained Lingappa and Balakrishna.
Clarifying on the issue, the village accountant said the Assistant Commissioner has refused to provide the land in survey number 293/1 as it is deemed forest land. Another 28 cents land in the same survey number has been approved and the land would be sanctioned after panchayat approval, he informed.
Reacting to this members Raghunath L Bhat and Honnappa Gowda urged the authorities to clear a rubber plantation which had come up in a deemed forest.
Various other civic grievances pertaining to Akrama Sakrama and water supply also came up for discussion.
The meeting was presided over by Gram Panchayat President Umavathi.
