Udupi: Speaking after a spot visit to Baje Dam, MLA Pramodh Madhwaraj said, “The pre- monsoon has helped us to provided enough water to the households within CMC limits”.  The seven Gram Panchayats adjoining the CMC area will be provided sufficient water from May 29.

At present the water level in both Baje and Shiroor reservoirs has  increased up to 4.34 meters. Earlier from March 7, water was provided on alternative days in these areas. However the pre monsoon showers have made the provision of water through tanker lorries redundant this year.”

“The farmers will also get benefit from the reservoirs. CMC will forward a letter to DC to permit the farmers to connect the pump sets”, he added.

He said that the present water level in the reservoirs is sufficient until June 25. To fulfill the water requirements of the people here, capacity of both the reservoirs should be increased.

He added: “As the Swarna 2nd stage has proved to be insufficient to provide water in the long run, Swarna 3rd stage will be worked out.He recommended  another dam at End Point for Swarna 3rd stage.

Around Rs 35 crore has so far been released to draw the water from Varahi River to Udupi, this will result in sufficient water in the district for the next 30 years MLA added.
