No Correlation between Yettinahole-Netravati diversion: DVS

Bantwal:Dakshina Kannada (DK) district will have no consequences from the proposed Yettinahole project that was projected as disastrous, assured the former CM D V Sadanand Gowda.

Addressing the media persons, D V Sadanand  Gowda who has arrived at Bantwal along with Ex-DyCM K S Eshwarappa to listen to the grievances of areca planters, here on Thursday August 29.  The areca commercial crop has been affected with disease wherein the tender rotten areca falls off the plant causing distress to the peasants.

Yettinahole project will resume only after detailed study on its consequences.  There is no need to correlate Yettinahole project with Netravati River turning project, stressed Gowda.
Gowda has urged Eshwarappa to listen to the grievances of areca planters who are distressed of the menace in their plantations and sought the state administration comes to their help, urged Gowda.

Gowda further sought Eshwarappa to set up a Committee to study the different issues of areca planters, to grant compensation for the losses caused by the disease by undertaking survey in each village.

The areca planters in DK, Udupi, Uttara Karnataka, Chikmagalur and Shimoga are affected the most due to the disease plaguing their plantations.  Meanwhile, a meeting of areca planters will be held at CAMPCO on Friday August 30 in this regard, in order to pressurize the state government to address their numerous grievances. 

The delegation comprised B Nagaraj Shetty, former MLA A Rukmaya Poojary, K Padmanabha Kottari, TP president Lalita Shivappa Naik, vice president Anand A Shamboor, Bantwal BJP president G Anand, leaders Tajesh Nayak Ulippadyguttu, Dinesh Bhandary, Chennappa Kotian, Dinesh Amtoor, Purushottam Salian and others visited the areca plantation of Balakrishna Holla in Shamboor village, Hariyappa Poojary and Rohitaksha in Baltila village on the occasion.
