Mangalore: There was tension in the air at Niddodi on July 29, Monday when around 500 residents of the village gheraoed a team of Congress members which had arrived along with some media men to study the problems of Niddodi and the objections raised by people for the proposed 4000 mw thermal power project.
The agitated locals prevented the Congress leaders as well as the media from entering Niddodi. They were armed with footwear and broomsticks to chase them away. The angry locals even said they would speak directly to the MLA if he visits the village. The group was in no mood to hear the visitors and the leaders who arrived had to beat a hasty retreat when their vehicles were stoned. Police who rushed to the spot brought the situation under control.
Congress leaders P V Mohan, Denis D’Silva, T K Sudhir, Badruddin, Suresh Shetty and Rohitaksha from Raitha Sangha were in the team which had been to Niddodi.
