Bantwal: Following several complaints from general public, the officials of the National Highway Authority of India, on Tuesday evicted illegal petty shops, which had encroached the Farangipet junction. These shops included vegetable, fruit shops and fastfood joints.
Since most of the margin of the roadsides were gobbled by these shops, the vehicle users used to park their vehicles haphazardly as per their whims and fancies, causing lot of trouble to pedestrians.
After persistent complaints to the Authority from the locals, the police and the NHAI plunged into action on Tuesday and evicted several shops after the petty shops owners failed to pay heed to three notices served to them.
When the officials on Tuesday arrived with JCB machines, few voluntarily removed the shops. Few scooters parked near the bus stand were towed away.
Rural police sub-inspector Rakshith A K and team led the demolition drive.
The NHAI has directed such shop owners in all the junctions to vacate their shops within next two days.
