Karkala : In a tragic incident, a newly married woman has ended her life by jumping into a well near her parental home at Hebri Mullugudde Gujjibettu on Tuesday May 20.

The deceased is Lakshmi Kulal (20), daughter of Sanjeeva Kulal.  Her marriage had taken place with Suresh of Perdoor, an autorickshaw driver by profession  just on May 11 at the Perdoor Kulala Bhavan.

Lakshmi who was at her husband’s place after marriage, had returned to her parental home following a dinner.

On Tuesday afternoon, she all of a sudden jumped into the well at around 2  pm. Her husband Suresh who is  in a state of shock, says  he  just fails to understand why she took the extreme step when she led a happy life with him for eight days after marriage.  He also said the marriage expenses were borne by both sides and that he had not secured dowry. He also said  the jewellery  which Lakshmi had were offered by her parents at their own will.

Her parents meanwhile say the marriage was fixed after securing her consent. The  girl was working in a cashew factory prior to her marriage.

Tahsildar Babu Devadiga has conducted the Mahajar. The exact cause of the suicide is not known. Hebri police are investigating the case.
