Mangaluru: A three-day old baby girl was found dead in an open well at Kalpane, near Bendore on Sunday morning.

The police said that the baby girl must have been thrown into the well few days back. The well belongs to an elderly couple Kasthuri Ithal, which is adjacent to the road, he added.

The identity of the child is not known. We will start the enquiry, the police said.

Locals claim that the child was killed as a result of pre-marital relationship and may not be a case of female infanticide.

Mangaluru East police have registered a case.
