New twist to child trafficking case

Kundapur : The alleged child trafficking case wherein a father has been accused of selling his own child, has taken a new twist with  a person named Krishnaiah Achari of Chamtadi of Belur Devasthanabettu claiming that he had adopted the child legally.

In the wake of media reports on the issue, Krishnaiah Achari had voluntarily arrived at the Kundapur police station on July 6, Saturday and had furnished documents which  reveal that he had legally adopted the child. He also stated that the child has been rechristened as Chethan.

He said he adopted the child considering the health problem of his wife and that the childs parents Ratheesh and Prema were present personally while the adoption process took place and had signed the documents.

It may be recalled here that the police have also arrested Prema (31), the wife of Ratheesh of  Nellikunje in connection with the case and the court has remanded her to judicial custody.Ratheesh has already been arrested for allegedly selling the child.

Though the second child of the couple named Babloo has been traced in Mangalore, search is underway for the first child.

The court has now directed that Babloo be entrusted to the custody of his mother.
