National Masters Athletics Championships 2014 kicks off in city

Mangalore: DK District  in-charge Minister and State Minister for Forest and Ecology B Ramanatha Rai inaugurated the 34th National Masters Athletic Championship 2014 at the Mangala Stadium in the city on  February 6, Thursday. The minister unfurled the flag at the inaugural of the event organised by the Dakshina Kannada Masters Athletics Association and Karnataka Masters Athletics Association. Earlier, the participant athletes took out a  colourful procession from UGC ground near Urva Market to the stadium.

The athletes also presented a march past. Over 1400 athletes from 22 states are taking part. Even an eight member team from Sri Lanka is taking part.

Ibrahim.  Indian Masters Athletics Association Chairman TO Jacob,  former international athlete Rohith  Hegde, Indian Masters Athletics Association General Secretary Gerald D’Souza,  DK District Masters Athletics Association President KS Kodanda Rame Gowda, District Youth Services and Sports Department Deputy Director Parshwanath,  Organising Committee President K Tejomaya,  businessman Harsha Moily and others were present.
