National librarians day celebrated in St. Agnes College

Mangalore: In remembrance of national professor of library science, Padmashree Dr S R Ranganathan (1892-1972), the National librarians day was celebrated in St. Agnes College today.

The program was inaugurated by Deccan Herald bureau chief Dr. Ronald Anil Fernandes.

In the in the inaugural address said that the students should cultivate the habit of reading. Due to the affect of the social networking sites students are not able to cultivate the habit of reading. A good reader makes a good writer and you can start writing to newspapers by writing to “Letter to the editor” column. 

Later prizes were distributed to the students for their efficient usage of library and library facilitiesThe program was presided over by the college principal Dr. Sr. Prem M Dsouza A C. 

Librarian Dr. Vishala B K welcomed the gathering where as convener of library committee Dr. Noeline Pinto rendered the vote of thanks. 

Later informative sessions on writing skills were organized to the students. 

The first one was on the topic, “Writing Scholarly Articles for Science Journals” by Associate Professor of dept. of Chemistry, Mangalore University, Dr. B Vishalakshi and the second session was on “Writing Scholarly Articles for Social Science Journals by Asst. Librarian and coordinator of NMEICT, Central university of Kerala Dr. Dineshan Koovakkai.
