Mangalore : The Mulki Town Panchayat  has a new President and Vice President. Both are women. Meenakshi Bangera and Vasanthi Bhandari, both of the BJP were elected unopposed as the President and Vice Preisdent respectively of the Panchayat on March 10, Monday.

The BJP enjoys an absolute majority in the House and candidates of other parties had not fielded nomination. Only the two were in the fray and election officer and tahsildar Ravichandra Nayak declared that they have been elected.  Meenakshi Bangera is a first time TP member and got a chance this time as the post is reserved for SC women candidate.  Vasanthi Bhandari is a second time member. The post of Vice President was reserved for a general category lady candidate.
