Mangalore : A JD(S) booth level office bearer named Manjunath alias Kalla Manja  is facing the charges of raping a minor girl at a house behind the government school at Lingappaiahkadu in Mulki on June 14, Friday.The Mulki police have launched a search for Manjunath and also a woman named Manjula  who had lured  the minor girl into the house.

According to sources, Manjula invited the girl, a daughter of labourer couple from Dharwad to the house. It is learnt, the girl remained at home after seventh standard and was all alone  as her parents were away on work. As the girl entered the house, the door was locked and Manjunath who was inside allegedly raped her.

Sources also revealed that the girl who was shocked  after the incident, returned home and consumed some chemical in an apparent bid to end her life. Her parents immediately took her to a hospital in Mulki where doctors who examined her revealed that she had been raped.

Investigations are in progress.
