Much-awaited rain brings respite; losses reported in Puttur

Mangaluru: Udupi and Dakshina Kannada region received few hours of rain coupled with thunder and lightning on Thursday evening, making the people heave a sigh of relief.

Though the rains made a flash appearance on Wednesday evening as well, it served no purpose as the temperature refused to dip.

However, the rains that lashed on Thursday brought the much needed respite from the scorching heat and soaring temperature.

The traffic in the city, as expected was affected due to the rains.

Puttur region experienced some loss of property due to the first rain.

Valakadama village of Koila lost crop, houses and cattle shelters and the losses have been estimated at Rs 10,000.

As per sources, over 2000 areca trees and 500 banana saplings were uprooted due to wind and rain. The asbestos sheets of several houses flew away due to intensity of the wind here.

Bantwal too witnessed heavy rains on Thursday, however, no damages have been reported here.

Due to the rains, the water gushed into the shops on service road at B C Road.

The entire region has been reeling under acute water paucity. One may have to only wait and watch if the rains will do any good to the water situation here.
