Mangalore: During the monthly grievance meeting of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe at the Superintendent of Police office on Sunday February 3, the Meesalathi Rakshana Samithi alleged that the Mangalore University has been admitting students with fake caste certificates.

In the meeting chaired by Superintendent of Police Shanthanu Sinha, the Samithi alleged that  two students who are said to be  pursuing post graduation and M.Phil have been availing all the benefits enjoyed under the reservation meant for SC, ST and OBC.

Samithi Deputy Secretary Narayan V Shiroor said that two students belonging to Mogavaeera (fishermen) community have submitted fake certificates claiming their caste as Mogera, which falls under scheduled caste category.

He said that a dharna will be staged in front of the Mangalore University bus stand on February 3, demanding the University to take action against two students and allot the two seats to deserving students from SC/ST category.

The DSS District Convenor Keshava also urged that the authorities must not offer reservation facilities to the immigrants from Sri Lanka and Tamil Nadu who are settled in the district. He strongly opposed issuing caste certificates to them.

The Samithi has also warned of staging a state-wide protest led by Dalit organisations, if the Vice Chancellor fails to fulfill their demand.
