MSEZ Commissioner’s DA case: Centre yet to receive official communication

Mangaluru: Union Ministry of Commerce is yet to receive an official intimation about the CBI raid on the residence of Mangaluru Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) Development Commissioner Vijay Kumar Narayan Shewale, which unearthed a Disproportionate Assets (DA) case.

Speaking to newskarnataka.com, Ministry of Commerce SEZ director D V Ravi said that if the administration department of the commerce ministry receives any such intimation, it would be brought to the notice of vigilance who would gather information and prepare a report and submit it to him, based on which the Ministry would act.

Meanwhile, sources in the Mangaluru SEZ on conditions of anonymity said that they too are in dark about the CBI raid and they too have read it in the media only.

However, as per media reports, the CBI recovered Rs.1.94 crore in cash from Mangaluru SEZ commissioner’s house and a case of disproportionate assets case has been registered against him.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) recovered more than one crore rupees from the residence of the then Development Commissioner, Special Economic Zone, Surat, during raids conducted after a case of disproportionate assets was registered against him according to CBI press release, dated July 16.

The CBI has registered a case under section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(e) of PC Act, 1988 and Section 109 of IPC against Vijay Kumar Narayan Shewale. It was alleged that said public servant had acquired disproportionate assets to the tune of Rs. 5.26 Crore (approx) in his own name as well as in the name of his family members including his wife, daughter and son. The alleged assets include residential, business and agricultural premises.

Searches were conducted at 7 premises in Mangaluru, Mumbai, Malegaon and Nashik which led to recovery of several incriminating documents relating to the acquisition of properties and cash to the tune of Rs 99,60,000/ (approx)- from the residence of said public servant and Rs 94,99,000/-(approx) from the office of a private firm at Andheri (West), Mumbai. 300 gms (approx) of gold jewellery and 900 gms (approx) of silver coins were recovered from a bank locker in the name of his wife.
