MPRL has achieved net profit of Rs 1,148 cr: MD H Kumar

Mangaluru: MRPL, one of the mini Rathna companies made a financial turnaround by achieving a net profit of Rs 1,148 cr during 2015-16 against a loss of Rs 1,712 cr during 2014-15.

Briefing the media about the same, MRPL Managing Director H Kumar said that the company has paid Rs 11,507 cr as duties and taxes to the Central government and Rs 949 cr taxes to the state government during 2015-16. MRPL has achieved highest ever throughput of 15.53 MMT during 2015-16, highest ever diesel production of 6.491 MMT during the year and highest ever LPG dispatch of 810 TMT during the year.

He said that as per the Apex Court directives and to meet the government of India’s auto fuel upgrade policy, the MRPL has embarked to upgrade its facilities to produce BS-VI grade Petrol and Diesel by April 2020, which will reduce the sulphur content in Petrol and Diesel to 10 ppm level.

“This will greatly help to reduce the environment pollution caused by automobile emissions,” he said adding that for this to happen additional land is required.

The company is planning to enhance its refining capacity to 18/21 MMTPA with low cost revamp, set up Raw Petroleum Coke gasification complex to produce SYN GAS and subsequent potential to produce value added chemicals such as urea (Fertiliser), acetic acid, acryilates etc and production of Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB), a feed stock to produce detergents.

He said that the state’s high level clearance committee (SHLCC) has cleared land allocation of 1050 acres for MRPL’s future projects. This includes the land for setting up new facilities, 33% green belt and rehabilitation facilities. The land acquisition process is on through KIADB. The land to the north of the existing refinery mainly in Kuthethur and Permude villages (around 850 acres) is proposed to be acquired for the new facilities and green belt. Balance land near Mulur and Kandavara villages is proposed to be acquired for rehabilitation purposes.

He pointed that MRPL is having 7% of India’s refining capacity. Main products LPG, Petrol, Diesel, Kerosene, ATF, Naphtha, Mixed xylene, Propylene, Polypropylene, F.O, Bitumen, Pet coke and sulphur. We have been producing the latest BS-IV grade Petrol and Diesel.
