Mangaluru: Two girls and a boy from different communities who had been to a hotel at Melkar, Panemangalore, to celebrate a birthday, were detained by the police on Saturday March 7.

The police sources said that the trio met at a hotel for tea; however few right-wing outfit activists saw them and made misconstrued claims against them.  They then called the police, in turn, the police called the students’ parents and the officials of the hostel where they stay.

Subsequently they were released after the parents executed a bond. The girls are college students and stay in a hostel near Panemangalore while the boy is said to be their classmate.

Reportedly, during the morning hours, the girls left from the hostel allegedly without informing the warden, and gone to a hotel at Birva centre in Melkar. There they reportedly met a male classmate.  The activists of a right-wing outfit grew suspicious on their behavior, as they alleged them.

Bantwal town inspector Nandakumar later said that the students had just visited the hotel, but the problem arose after their presence in the hotel was misapprehended by the activists and the other locals.
