Moodbidri : A youth has been arrested  by  the Moodbidri police on the charges of raping a 19 year old college student after befriending her. The arrested is Mahesh (24) of Kotebagilu in Marpady village. He is said to be a labourer by profession.

It is learnt a missed call had brought him into contact with the girl, who is a second year degree student in a local college. Sources said the youth was successful in persuading in getting the jewels of the girl. He, it is learnt, had also pledged it in a bank for Rs 25000. After some time he had released the gold and then sold it.  According to reports, when the girl demanded her gold back, he had asked her to come to a beedi branch close by her college, where he reportedly threatened and raped her. It is learnt, he had raped the girl at least five to six times after threatening her.

Police said the accused Mahesh was also involved in some minor theft and other cases. Investigations are underway.
