Puttur :  Residents of Minchipadavu near Sulliapadavu of Puttur taluk, a border area between Kerala and Karnataka, have been dreading to drink well water from the village ever since news spread that Kerala officials had dumped Endosulfan pesticide in an unused well in the area following a ban on the pesticide in Kerala. Reports had said that the pesticide was dumped in a 60 feet deep well in a cashew plantation.

On June 28, Friday, Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader visited the village and took stock of the situation. He also met several locals as well as visited several houses of Endosulfan affected people in the village.

The minister assured to take up the matter with the chief ministers of both Karnataka and Kerala. He also promised to take a delegation of local leaders to Kerala chief minister to discuss the issue. Locals on this occasion told the minister that they feared contamination of well water in the area and were terrified to drink well water.

It may be mentioned here that even social activist Ravindranath Shanbhog had requested the minister to look into the serious aspect. Several including Kavu Hemanath Shetty, Block Congress President of Puttur, Mohammad Ali, Srirama Pakkala, Congress leaders accompanied the minister during his visit.
