Moodabidri: Every year, it has now become a ritual in the region to cry and crib over water paucity during dry season. However, in a remarkable move, Moodabidri has formed an organisation with the aim of creating awareness on water conservation and also implement means and techniques of water conservation in the region.
In this direction Moodabidri Jalasamrakshana Samiti has been formed and the same would be headed by renowned progressive farmer Dr L C Soans and Town Municipal Council Member P K Thomas.
The organisation has come into existence due to the interest of Moodabidri Rotary Club and several other voluntary like-minded organisations, which felt the need to address the water woes cropping up every year.
The organisation wants to focus on creating awareness on water conservation among people in general and school and college students in specific. It intends to implement methods of water conservation with people’s participation. The Rotary Club of Moodabdiri has already identified 16 lakes in the TMC limits for revival and also recharging of as many as 31 kaput borewells. Recharging of government water sources also finds place in the priority list of the organisation.
While Dr Soans will be the President of the Committee, Thomas will be the Working President. Jaison Taccode is the Secretary, Rajaverma Bailangady is the Vice-President, Anantha Krishna Rao is the Treasurer and Vinod Serrao is the Joint Secretary of the newly formed organisation.
Mohommed Sharief, Dr Muralikrishna, Subhashchandra Chowta, Rathnakar Devadiga, Dr Sudeep Kumar, Srikanth Rao, Seetharam Acharya, Alwyn Menezes, Jinendra Hegde, Dhananjay Moodabidri, Suresh Kotian, Maqbool Hussein, Lavina Taccode, Dinesh, Yashoshar Bangera and Koragappa are the members of the executive committee.
With aspirations to bring about a change, one may have to wait and watch if the organisation will bring about a change.
