Mangalore, Jul 8: The intensity of the Monsoon has picked up over the last 48 hours in the DK and Udupi districts. There was both relief and distress too, especially for those who had to venture out from the comfort of their homes.

The rains lead to the deluge in the streets and overflowing of clogged drains and sewage lines. Many houses in the low-lying areas were inundated and vehicular movement was also affected.
Farmers were happy as they could start sowing activity. The temperature has now reached pleasant levels and if the monsoon is good, the prices of vegetables and other food items can be expected to see a drop. All communities have been praying for rain during the last few days and it seems their prayers have been answered.
The region received intermittent rains on Monday. Sullia received the highest of 43.4 mm rainfall, followed by Mangalore—15.2 mm, Moodbidri—13.2 mm Bantwal—14.8 mm, Puttur—11.4 mm.
