Mangalore : Mangalore South MLA JR Lobo who has admitted that there is water problem still at some places in the city, has informed that a second stage work would be taken up after consultations with Urban Development Minister to ensure adequate supply of water. He also stated that steps would be taken to ensure 24×7 water supply in the city by the next two and a half years.
Speaking to media men in Mangalore on August 21, Wednesday, Lobo said a sum of Rs 170 crore has been sought from the government for the purpose. He also stated that steps would be taken to reduce water wastage in the city.
Referring to the underground drainage project, Lobo said a sum of Rs 250 crore has already been spent on the project and pointed out that a sum of Rs 150 crore has been sought from the government to complete the pending works which he said may take another three years.
Lobo also said modernization projects of markets including the Central Market, Kadri, Urva, Alape and Kankanady markets are proposed and added that the project would be completed within three years and five months.
Lobo further informed that a single window system has been introduced in the MCC office to see that people seeking permission for construction of buildings do not have to approach MUDA and can get it done directly through the single window system.
