Mangaluru: A day after the DYFI accused the district administration of violating the Seva Sindhu guidelines while sending migrant labourers back to their native states, MLC Ivan D’Souza also accused the local administration of the same.
Speaking to the reporters here on Monday, May 11, Ivan D’Souza said that even though it was mandatory for the migrant workers to register on the Seva Sindhu app, the district administration sent even those migrant labourers who were not registered. Social distancing was also thrown to the wind while ferrying the migrant labourers, he added.
The MLC also questioned the district administration for collecting money from the migrant labourers to send them to their native states. “It was the responsibility of the Central Government to send them to their villages. But, under the pretext of sending them home and providing food during the journey, the district administration has collected money from the poor labourers,” he lamented.
Questioning the silence of MP Nalin Kumar Kateel in this regard, Ivan asked, “Where is our MP now? Being the MP of our district, he should be in favour of the labourers. Why has he preferred to remain silent when the district administration has been looting the poor labourers?”
