Bengaluru: Karnataka IAS officer Captain Manivannan P has been transferred without being assigned a new post. The sudden announcement was made by the state government late on Monday, May 11 evening.
As per a report by TNM, the IAS officer has been relieved from his roles as Principal Secretary of both the Labour Department and Information and Public Relations Department with this announcement.
Capt Manivannan has now been replaced by M Maheshwar Rao, Principal Secretary, Commerce and Industries Department (Mines and MSME) in both the roles with immediate effect.
For the past week, Manivannan, who is a 1998 batch IAS officer, was dealing with the issues of employees not being paid during the lockdown.
Recently, due to immense pressure, he had to reverse his decision to issue notices to employers for not paying their workers full salaries/wages for April.
It can be noted that the Karnataka Government is mulling over relaxing the labour laws that govern the minimum wages, increasing of overtime working hours and relaxing compliance by using key legislation in order to help industries.
During his career, the IAS officer has been praised several times for being responsive to the public.
He previously held various posts in the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board, Social Welfare Department and BESCOM (Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited).
