Mangalore: JR Lobo, MLA of Mangalore South visited the Government Wenlock Hospital on June 26, Wednesday and visited the various wards of the hospital. He also spoke to the hospital staff, doctors as well as the patients to know about the problems facing the hospital.
The MLA during the course of his visit to the hospital, realized that the hospital faced an acute shortage of staff including nursing and clerical staff, thereby affecting its smooth functioning.
The MLA visited the various wards including ICU, artificial limb centre, operation theatre, burns ward and Regional Advanced Pediatric Care Centre (RAPCC) in the hospital. He also took serious note of the fact that a mini operation theatre in the hospital has not been functioning since the past ten years owing to shortage of staff.
He further took strong exception to the laying of beds for patients on the corridors and directed the hospital authorities to remove the beds and shift the orthopedic patients to other wards where there are empty beds. The MLA during his visit to the hospital also found that the ICU of the hospital lacked adequate infrastructure like ventilators.
Dr Erappa, Resident Medical Officer was asked to find a solution to the problem arising due to severe shortage of supply of drugs to the hospital.
Nursing Superintendent Rosamma also referred to shortage of staff and said the request to KMC has been of no avail. She said the hospital also faced shortage of dialysis and ECG technicians.
The MLA later assured to bring to the notice of the government the problems confronting the hospital.
