Mangaluru: Amid opposition by JDS and Congress to name Yelahanka flyover after RSS ideologue Veer Savarkar, a few unidentified persons put up a banner naming Pumpwell Flyover after the freedom fighter, on Tuesday night.

The banner ‘Veer Savarkar Pumpwell Melsethuve’ was spotted at around 8 pm on Tuesday.

Besides the banner, the name of Bajrang Dal also written on the retaining wall of the flyover. Soon after the incident, the image of the banner was uploaded on the social media, which went viral later.

The police sprung into action and removed the banner.

The incident made way for debate on social media, with some supporting the move and some opposing the same.

It may be recalled that debate had spared at the state level, when the BSY-led BJP government intended to name Yelahanka flyover after Savarkar.
