Mangaluru: Suo motto action of an alleged assault on a minor has been initiated by the Chairperson of the Karnataka Commission for protection of Child Rights Kripa Alva.
The minor was reportedly assaulted on Monday at a city hostel, when a cook-cum-driver of the hostel allegedly placed a hot ladle on the neck of the boy. It was reportedly an attempt to separate him from another boy during a quarrel.
“Based on a newspaper report on the serious issue we have taken action and also we have sought a detailed report from the Department of Women and Child Welfare”, Alva said.
The boy was rescued by the Childline staff following which he was admitted to the Government Wenlock hospital. Child Welfare Committee chairman Nikesh Shetty after hearing the plight of the minor informed Mangaluru East Police to further investigate the matter.
The police registered Mr. Shetty’s statement as the First Information Report and registered a case under Section 324 of Indian Penal Code on Wednesday. Ms. Alva has said that she will be visiting the hostel on Thursday.
