The competition is holding back on their own releases due to the release of Bahubali.
Bahubali has generated curiosity and excitement among cine buffs because of the pre-release publicity. Besides being dubbed as the country’s most expensive film so far, it is the first non-Bollywood film of this magnitude. In fact, a Jain mutt in Karnataka had sent a legal notice after confusing the reel Bahubali with the figure revered by Jains. The production team succeeded in convincing the mutt that the story is in no way connected with ‘Bhagavan’ Bahubali.
The filmly Babubali is a fictional story of two brothers battling for control of an ancient Indian kingdom. The film has a huge star cast that includes Prabhas, Tamannaah Bhatia, Anushka Shetty, Rana Duggabatti and Ramya Krishnan.
It has been made in Telugu and Tamil, and has been dubbed in Hindi and Malayalam. Kannada actor Sudeep, who made an impact in Rajamouli’s Eega , is also essaying a small role in the film. Sudeep said that he could not say no to the director when offered the role and ‘it is always a pleasure to work with Rajamouli’.
In fact, Rajamouli is from Manvi in Raichur district.
Release of a non-Kannada film at such a large number of screens has sent jitters among Kannada producers. Though Bahubal i is likely to affect the box office prospects of Sudeep starrer Ranna and Shivarajkumar starrer Vajrakaya, which continue to do good business, they are not in a position to oppose the movie because of the decision of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC).
