Bangalore: The Karnataka Milk Federations (KMF) decision to increase milk rates by Rs 2 from Wednesday came as a rude shock. It is feared that revision of rates may lead to chaos as customers are already hit by steep inflation. Even ruling Congress leaders have urged the state to intervene.
G Somashekhar Reddy, chairman, KMF attributed the hike to the steep increase in diesel and petrol prices. KMF officials said farmers will not benefit, as prices have been revised to meet logistical costs incurred by the federation.
KMFs decision has not gone down well with its customers. They feel that instead of hiking prices, the government should have improved the efficiency of the federation to plug leakages and that it will directly impact house hold expenditure maybe even lead to a nutritional crisis.
