Karkala: An electric pole is positioned dangerously right on the middle of a newly laid road at Kukkundur here. The inaction of the MESCOM to remove this pole on a road  that links the Jayanthinagar 4th and 5th cross here, has been deplored by the locals.

Asphaltation works on this road was completed just a fortnight ago. Former CM Sadananda Gowda during his tenure as CM had sanctioned Rs 2 lakh for this road from his funds following an appeal by the local panchayat.

However,  the electric cpole was not removed before undertaking the road  works.

It is learnt, the MESCOMhad preferred against shifting this pole as it was a hi-tension pole and would create hassles. No step was also taken to shift the pole despite a resolution passed in this regard in the  Panchayat meeting.

The road works have now been completed by the contractor keeping in view  the fact that the works may be hindered if the  LS election notification is announced.But, beyond doubt, the electric pole right on the middle of the road will prove an obstacle to the motorists.

The Kukkundur Panchayat President  Antony D’Souza when contacted said the MESCOM has already been directed to shift the electric  pole but has been ignoring it. He also said the MESCOM itself will be entirely responsible in case of any mishap in the area.
