Mangaluru: A park in the memory of victims who lost their lives in the fateful Air India Express Flight (Dubai to Mangaluru) crash on May 22, 2010 is proposed to come up, according to the district administration.
Chairing the meeting in the city on Wednesday held to discuss about the construction of memorial for the air crash victims, Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim said that the the stretch of land on the road leading from Kulur to Thannirbavi on the outskirts of the city would be used to establish a memorial in memory of the 158 victims of the air crash.

He said the park will be developed on 43 cents of land by state administration, NMPT, Air India and Airport Authority of India and will be then handed over to Mangalore City Corporation for maintenance. A memorial resembling Boeing 737-800 aircraft will be erected in middle of the park.
Venkatesh Bhat from Mangaluru International Airport Users’ Forum suggested that a plague should be erected on the stretch bearing names of all the victims who lost their lives in the fatal accident. While, MIA airport manager Air India Sudhir Bhat suggested that a useful public facility such as a library could be established as part of the memorial.
Mangalore International Airport Director J T Radhakrishna, Assistant Commissioner of Police Uday Nayak, Former Mangalore International Airport Director M Vasudev Rao were present.
