Mega convention of GP members at BC Road

Bantwal : DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai has said that the Panchayat Raj  system has not only strengthened the society but has also created a social revolution.

He was speaking  as a chief guest at a huge district level convention of gram Panchayat representatives held at the Rangoli Auditorium of BC Road on November 23, Saturday. The convention was held under the joint aegis of the DK District Gram Panchayat Representatives Federation,  taluk unions and Sugrama Gram Panchayat Elected women Representatives Association.

Continuing, Rai said unlike the past, people of all castes and creed have been able to enter the Panchayats due to reservation.
The convention was earlier inaugurated by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel. In his address, he said the nation can progress only when villages see development. He said the government grants to gram panchayats was insufficient and demanded Rs 1 crore annual grant to each panchayat.

Health Minister UT Khader, ZP Chief Koragappa Naik, MLAs Shakuntala Shetty, Moidin Bava, MLCs Pratapchandra Shetty, Kota Srinivas Poojari, Bantwal Taluk Panchayat President Lalitha Shivappa Naik, ZP CEO Tulasi Maddineni, Sugrama Women’s Representatives Association President Vrinda Poojari, President of DK Gram Panchayat Representatives Association PK Chandrashekhar and others were present.

The conference placed forth a 25 point demand including  implementation of recommendations of third Finance Commission, to increase honorarium to GP members and grants to panchayats,  to solve the problems faced by GP members etc.
A memorandum in this regard was forwarded to the Panchayatraj Minister HK Patil through Ramanatha Rai.
ID cards were also symbolically distributed to GP members on the occasion.
