Mangalore : A meeting was convened at the DC office meeting hall in the city on Tuesday June 24 in connection with the demand for increase in express and shuttle bus fares.
The meeting attended by bus operators, public representatives as well as the officials was chaired by Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said the demand of the bus operators was to fix the bus fares in such a way that neither the public nor the operators suffer. He said the appeal of the operators was to increase the Mangalore-Udupi express bus fares to Rs 59. If the court order is taken into consideration, then the fare should be fixed at Rs 65 at the rate of a 20 per cent hike. But this is likely to be a burden on the common man, he felt.
Hanumanth Kamath, Convenor of Nagarika Hitharakshana Vedike, who also spoke requested the authorities against increasing the bus fares as the people at the helm of affairs are unable to understand the plight of the common man.
Afzal Ahmed Khan, Regional Transport Officer, Dr Sharanappa, SP, Regional Transport Officers from Udupi and Puttur Divisions also attended the meeting.
