Udupi : Vinaykumar Sorake, State Minister for Urban Development and Udupi District in-charge Minister has said that the Mangalore City Corporation and Udupi CMC have been brought under the Capacity Building Project of the Union Government.
Speaking to media men after participating in the KDP tri-monthly review meet held at the DC office complex on August 12, Monday, the Minister said the Capacity Building Project aims at improving the efficiency of the staff of the local administrative bodies so that they can effectively implement various government projects. Sorake informed that under the project Udupi CMC will receive Rs one crore for a period of four years.
Sorake said that city areas of Udupi will be provided drinking water supply from Varahi and a dam will be constructed in Saligrama town panchayat limits.
The Varahi project will be realized at the earliest and progress review meeting will be held every month, he said. He was addressing reporters after chairing a progress review meeting of Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) at zilla panchayat hall on Monday.
He also said that Agumbe Ghat Road that connects Shimoga with Udupi district will be converted into a national highway and a proposal to this effect has been considered by Union minister of road transport and highways Oscar Fernandes.
He further stated that it has been proposed to take up the KUDCEMP second phase works with a Rs 450 crore ADB aid in Mangalore, Udupi, Puttur and Kundapur.
Stating that he was aware of the parking problems confronting Mangalore and Udupi, the minister said pay’n park facility will be introduced at several places in the two cities. He also said he would visit various places of Udupi to take stock of the parking problem confronting the town.
The Minister also stated that the CDP amendment issue would be discussed at the next KDP meeting.
Legislators Pramod Madhwaraj, Gopal Poojari, Sunil Kumar, ZP President Upendra Nayak and Vice President Mamatha Shetty were also present.
