Mangaluru: Indian sprinter M R Poovamma, who won gold at the recently held Asian games, was felicitated with Rs 2 lakh in cash by the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) here on Saturday, September 29.

Prior to the MCC meeting held at the Mangala auditorium, Poovamma was felicitated in a simple programme.

Thanking the MCC for the honour, Poovamma appreciated them for the felicitation, saying that such programmes can inspire those who want to bloom in the sports field. “I am grateful to the MCC as it has acknowledged my achievement. I hope that the MCC will also acknowledge the achievements of budding talents, who are trying to achieve more,” she said.

MCC Mayor Bhaskar Moily, Deputy Mayor Mohammed K, Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer and others were present.
