Bantwal: MCC officials on Saturday demolished compound walls of three houses without issuing notice in Thumbay.
However, when the local pounced on the MCC officials and threatened them of complaining to the higher officials about the same, the MCC Engineer reportedly pleaded before the locals not to bring the matter to the notice of the higher-ups. He even promised to give Rs 10,000 as compensation to them and also build the compound wall back in place.

The incident has given way to many unanswered questions, evincing if the MCC Engineer was trying to settle some personal score.

MCC officials arrived at Thumbay and demolished the compound walls built over water supply pipelines. It is learnt that five months ago the officials had issued notice to only two houses to demolish the walls since they have been built on the pipelines. Other shops and houses were  not issued notice.

Naranayana Bangera whose compound wall was demolished alleged that even after requesting not to demolish walls the officials did not pay heed.

“The MCC officials had not paid compensation when pipes were laid few years back in our land. The decision to demolish walls is condemnable, I will complaint to the DC,” he said.

Meanwhile, police arrived at the spot and asked the MCC officials on whose order the demolition was carried out.

While they answered that they were acting on an order from the DC, they did not have proper order copies in hands.

The locals too indulged in heated argument with the officials. When the locals warned to complain to the higher officials, the Engineer reportedly asked them not to complain to anyone and promised that they would give Rs 10,000 or construct the wall.

When the media persons reached the spot, the officials left the spot.
