Math Olympiad: 8 students from CFAL?selected for KRMO 2018

Mangaluru: A total of seven students from the Centre for Advanced Learning (CFAL), Mangaluru have been selected for the Karnataka Regional Mathematics Olympiad (KRMO-2018). In all, 41 students have been selected from Karnataka.

Informing about the selection, CFAL Programme Coordinator Severene Rosario said that the selected students are Samarth M Bhat, Yermal Koustubh Rao, Anmol J Shetty, Adithya Thomas, Satwik Acharya, Dhruhan Rajiv Shah, Rakshitha and Anish Hebbar.

Aditya Thomas from class 10 is the second topper out of the 30 selected in Karnataka, in the 8th to 11th standard category. Yermal Koustubh Rao and Anmol J Shetty are the only two students studying in I PUC at the Learning Centre PU College, Bejai-Kapikad, Mangaluru. Samarth M Bhat is in the second position out of the only 6 selected students in the 12th standard category in Karnataka. Anish Hebbar of 12th standard was selected and had attended the IMO (International Mathematics Olympiad) selection camp held at Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education in Mumbai in April-May 2018. He is once again eligible to attend the IMO selection camp in 2019 without going through the initial three stages of selection, Severene informed.

Informing about the importance of the examination, Severene said, “All the selected students qualify for INMO (Indian National Mathematical Olympiad) which leads to International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO). The first stage of the examination (Pre-RMO also known as PRMO) was held on August 19, 2018 at different centres all over India. A total of 360 students from Karnataka were selected for the second stage KRMO (Karnataka Regional Mathematics Olympiad). For the IMO Indian team, the 30 students who were selected from INMO will attend a training camp in Mumbai. Out of these, a team of 5-6 students will represent India at the International Mathematical Olympiads (IMO) 2019 which will be held in Bath, United Kingdom in July 2019.
