Udupi: Hundreds of students from various colleges came out on the streets today in a strong protest against the alleged gang-rape of a medical student at Manipal, which occured at late night of Thursday June 20.
Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishat (ABVP) along with various other student organizationsled the protest.
All students marched in accord towards Clock Tower where they held a protest demanding immediate arrest of the persons responsible for the gruesome crime.
The protestors demanded that the culprits must be booked as soon as possibel and strict action must be taken against the culprits .Also mentioned that right justice must be done to the victim. They also demanded that strict laws should be enforced to deter rapes and crimes against women.
Organizations like Campus Front of India and Girls Islamic Organization also protested.
There were also reports of a minor chaos that prevailed between the different groups, which was quickly brought under control by the police.Due to this protest traffic was affected almost about an hour.
The protestors also marched towards tahsildars office via Bannaje road and submitted a memorandum addressed to the Home Minister and the Chief Minister as well as SP Dr Boralingaiah.
Secutity has been tightend in the area.
