Udupi: The trial with regard to the June 2013 gang-rape of a Manipal University student commenced in the District and Sessions Court on Monday January 6.

All the 108 witnesses will be cross-examined and the court will hear  5 witnesses each day. The court cross-examined two of the witnesses, estate manager A Vittal and security guard at Manipal University Suresh on Monday.

 Meanwhile, though the victim and her friend were scheduled to appear before the court for hearing, they haven’t  as they  have exams till February 5. Even the  Manipal University had earlier appealed to the court to give them time and  the court has agreed for the same.

TS Jithuri, Public Prosecutor for the case was present during the hearing.
