Manipal Dental College raided by MESCOM Vigilance officials

Mangalore: The Manipal College of Dental Sciences building located behind KMC at Attavar was raided by the MESCOM Vigilance Department on Monday December 9. It is alleged that the  college was using electricity which was more than the sanctioned quantity.

The complaint lodged by social worker P S Haneef Saheb against Manipal College of Dental Sciences and Hospital which said that the college was illegally using electricity sourced from KMC.

During the raid it was found that the Manipal College had no license from the city corporation. It is also alleged that electricity was being taken from KMC hospital for more than two years. If the  allegations are proved, then the college may be liable to pay penalty upto around Rs 8 crores.

An RTI query has revealed  that 250 KVA was permitted to the college wherein the total consumption showed a usage of 950 KVA.

SP Harishchandra from the MESCOM Vigilance Department,  addressing the reporters said that the raid was conducted based on a complaint by social worker PS Haneef Saheb stating that the college was taking illegal power supply from KMC.

He added, “Every unit will be properly checked.As  the building is of seven floors the checking is still in process. The raid will conclude probably by evening. We have deployed officials from Shimoga, Chikmagalur and Udupi as this is a big raid.”

Haneef Saheb claims that the illegal electricity has been supplied from the past seven years. He said that the loss incurred is in crores and the building does not even have permission from the MCC.

DySP Vinay Gaonkar was also present during the raid with  other MESCOM Vigilance Department officials.
