
Mangaluru: The students of Masters in Urban Design and Development Faculty of Architecture, Manipal (A constituent of MAHE, Manipal) are holding a stakeholder discussion on March 5 at various key locations of Mangaluru from 11 AM to 5 PM.
Titled “Mangaluru Vision – 2031: Urban Restructuring Through Local Actions”, the day long event will include public interactions with exhibitions at nine important localities of the city, according to Niren Jain, one of the faculty professors. The inputs gained through these interactions will help the students to understand the potential of transforming Mangaluru city’s urbanisation towards a resilient and sustainable future as part of their study project.
The nine locations (with themes covered at that venue) are:
1. Venkatramana Temple Square (Car Street)
2. Service Bus Stand, State Bank (Public Transport)
3. Near Hotel Durgadev, KIADB Office, Baikampady (Baikampady Industrial Area)
4. Near Mangalore City Corporation (Housing Scenario)
5. Azizuddin Road, Bunder (Historical Preservation)
6. Old Port (Environment Estuary)
7. Urva Market (Water Edge Management)
8. Near MUDA office (Governance)
9. Near RTO office (Civic Space)
About 20 postgraduate students have been divided into nine teams and camp at each of these locations with an exhibition display and interact with the public to understand the issues and concerns of the locality. They will interact continuously with the citizens from 11 AM to 5 PM. The day’s programme will culminate with their final congregation from 6 to 6.30 PM at the Mangalore Exhibition Grounds opposite Hat Hill.
