Mangaluru: Mangaluru Central Railway Station (MAQ) now has a fully functional high speed Wi-Fi browsing facility. The facility was inaugurated on Saturday, November 12 after a soft launch of Wi-Fi in the railway station was held on September 10.

As many as 350 users in a day were logging into this service after the soft launch at Mangaluru Central Railway Station and according to the station authorities, the number of users attempting log-in will be higher after the formal inauguration. The Wi-Fi facility boasts of a 21.79 MB per second download and upload speeds which can stream top quality videos and songs to help kick the boredom of waiting passengers.
According to the spokesperson of RailTel Corporation of India Limited which is a unit of Ministry of Railways, google enabled Wi-Fi systems are under construction in 20 major stations all over the country. “Wi-Fi facilities have already been inaugurated in 34 major railway stations in the country including Allahabad, Ernakulam and Mumbai. In all, 39 other railway stations have reached the final stages of being Wi-Fi operational”, he said.
Indian Railway Wi-Fi services will be the world’s largest Wi-Fi project after all of the four hundred A and A1 category railway stations inaugurate their Wi-Fi services.
The Wi-Fi service at Mangaluru Central Railway Station was inaugurated by MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo, Chief Whip of Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza and Palakkad Divisional Railway Manager Naresh Lalwani.
