Mangalorean Janet is Vice President of Maharashtra Minority Commission

Mangalore :  Janet Lawrence DSouza who hails from Kinnigoli near Mangalore is now the Vice President of Maharashtra State Minority Commission. She is  presently also serving as President of Maharashtra Womens Congress.

Janet hails from Kirem near Kinnigoli and is  the daughter of Celine DSilva, a senior Congress leader of Maharashtra who had served as finance minister in the Vasanth Dada Patil Government and as Tourism and Social Welfare Minister in Shivajirao Nilangekar cabinet.

Janet has served the Maharashtra Congress in various positions and had even contested the last assembly elections from  Ghatkoper constituency. She is also the President of  Celine DSilva Foundation.

Her appointment as Vice President of Maharashtra State Minority Commission was  announced by Prof Janardhan Chandurkar, President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee on August 6, Tuesday.
