Mangalore:The city witnessed a huge protest against the proposed Yettinahole project on October 2, Wednesday. The protest rally which began from Jyothi Circle and concluded near the DC Office was participated by students from various colleges of Mangalore and people from different organizations and journalists.
Malenadu Janapara Horata Samiti President Kishore Kumar who addressed the gathering said the protest was not against supplying water to plain land areas of the state, but against the wrong method used to serve the cause.” “The Government plans of diverting the entire river itself is wrong , it is very political and does not serve the cause of the people,” he said. He also expressed the fear that the project when implemented would lead to water scarcity in the coastal district.
Sakleshpura Committee Leader Dongere, in his address, said more and more youth should come forward and take part in this movement. The protest should not be stopped here but should be continued until the goal is reached, he added.

Various organizations supported the protest rally, Mangalore Chutuku Sahitya Parishad , Attere Bailu Mailkopala Nagarika Hitarakshana Samithi, Janani Swayam Sangha,Youth Hostel Association Of India, Aam Aadmi Party DK, Ariyu Yuva Sounvada Kendra Bantwal, Meridian College Mangalore, Yuvaka Mandala Naringana Todugoli, Sri Gokarnatha College Kudroli, NSS Wing AB Shetty, Patrakarta Charana Balaga Madhayama Kendra Thokottu and South Canara Photographer Association,Nurture Nature Club of School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya, St Aloysius College, Karavali Chitra Kala Chavadi, Kudremukh Wildlife Foundation, Meredian College, Netravati Samrakshana Samiti, Malenadu students association, RX Life, Lions Club and Arya Hola Pratishthana others participated in the protest.
