In close proximity to general compartment coaches at more than 100 railway stations nationwide, including seven in Karnataka, the Indian Railway Board has set up booths offering affordable and tasty meals.
In Karnataka, subsidized food counters have opened at the KSR Bengaluru, Yeshwantpur, Mysuru, Vijayapura, and Ballari railway stations under the Southwest Railway and the Mangaluru Central and Junction railway sections under the Southern Railway.
Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Indian Railways are working together on this project. Its goal is to give passengers in unreserved bogies wholesome food.
In the past, railway station eateries offering the Janatha meals service offered inexpensive cuisine. These days, the counters are right on the platforms. This feature is currently available on 150 platforms across 100 train stations. Light dinners are Rs 50, breakfast is Rs 20, and 200 cc of water is Rs 3. The railway department’s PRO delivered this information.
