Mangalore: With the aim of making commuting between the city and the Mangalore Junction Railway Station easier,  the district administration had commenced the the process of operationalising a prepaid auto rickshaw counter. The process started two years ago but  it  is only recently that the kiosk was installed.  They are  however yet to finalize the counter operator.

Since Mangalore Junction is located off the highway, one has to depend either on one’s own or hired vehicles to travel between the city          and the  Mangalore Junction railway station.

The district administration had invited tenders from interested parties to operate the counter by collecting Re. 1 service charge from passengers. Regional Transport Officer, Dakshina Kannada, Afzal Ahmed Khan, said the RTA had received a few quotations from individuals as well as associations. The district administration  will be sending the proposal to the government to finalize the contract and get a notification issued, he said.

Another issue that has come to the fore, is that several contractors are unwilling to operate the counter at Re. 1 service charge.

It appears, that the facility will not see the light of day soon.
