Mangalore airport to have state-of-the-art Aircon 2100

Mangalore:Mangalore International Airport will soon have a state-of-the-art automated air traffic management system Aircon 2100. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has approved the commissioning of Aircon 2011 which is one of the most advanced automated air traffic control system which meets International Civil Aviation Organization’s standard and recommended practices in air traffic management.

The system will enhance the overall safety of air traffic control operation at Mangalore International Airport, said a press communiqué from JT Radhakrishna, Director of Mangalore International Airport. The release further  said the  system procured from Indra, Spain had to undergo vigorous safety assessment and extensive trial operation in shadow mode before its commissioning. The system enhances the safety of the flights by providing the air traffic controllers with information of air movements from radar, flight plans, direction finders and air-ground data link messages (ADS/CPDLC).

It also provides high degree of automation of the control tasks with flight plan management tools, automatic flight tracking system, automatic coordination between control positions and control centers, safety nets, medium term traffic conflict prediction tools etc. The system is capable of processing data from other radar feeds like Bangalore, Chennai, Trivandrum etc and display at Mangalore to increase the area of radar coverage.
