Mangaluru: As June 4th approached, apprehensions loomed large that police constables in the state would go on protest demanding better pay scale and an effective working system for them.

Even as the information from police officials in Dakshina Kannada confirmed that none in the constabulary of the district took part in the protest, all the officials including the SP and Commissioner of Police went on ground and ensured that no constable from any police station in the district participated in the protest.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, Commissioner of Police Chandrasekar, SP Bhushan Gulabrao Borase, together with DCPs and inspectors came together and met the family members of the constables who had assembled under one roof. The media was kept away from the meet.

Later, addressing the reporters, the DC and the Commissioner of Police said that police officials will sit together and sort it out.

Commissioner of Police, Chandrasekar said that a system will be put in place, for a better working  of the police force.

However, when informed about an effective leave system that has been in place over the last one and half year in Udupi, the Commissioner of Police said that the district was willing to adopt the system, which is already a success in Udupi.

While asking the DCP to find out about the system in place in Udupi, the Commissioner said that it is necessary to bring in such a system in place which would boost the morale of the constabulary.

Since over a year now, SP Annamalai has introduced a leave system in place where availing weekly off has been made mandatory for all the policemen.

A constable, for his marriage can avail 30days, for a near relative or brothers marriage can avail 15 days leave and on every six months of service, he can take 10 days leave without assigning reason.

Further, during emergency, he can just send an SMS and come back and regularize the same. He receives an SMS once his leave has been sanctioned.

Annamalai, speaking to newskarnataka.com said that if the policemen are given adequate leave, then there is no need to fake leave by tendering false medical certificate.

Now, it is to wait and watch if such a system will be brought into place in DK district as well.
